THAC or The Health Awareness Centre is a guiding light that helps you explore the path, practice and discipline of natural laws. So that you have a better understanding of health management principles and how best to use its tools like nutrition, daily practices and good discipline.

It is an invitation to learn about yourself and your body – the structure, the science, and the function, thereby unlocking the mystery of its potential for health and wellness.

What is THAC ?

A first of its kind, The Health Awareness Centre (THAC) had its inception way back in 1989, well before SELF CARE became fashionable. Located in Mumbai, its genesis was fuelled by the belief that the key for wellness, for the health and healing of ourselves and the planet, lies within each and every one of us.

The Centre was created to educate and motivate people to take care of their own health by helping them to make correct health choices. The emphasis is on understanding the underlying causes of disease and putting a little perspective on illness. In the light of this goal, THAC specialises in sustainable foods in health management; the THAC methodology provides a way to understand and apply proper health care measures that integrate the body, mind and the environment around. Through its programmes, THAC functions as a link between our daily living habits and their effects on the environment.

In its two decades of health activism that covers food safety to natural farming, THAC has demonstrated a model for integrating taste and health, illness and wellbeing through ecology and economy.

THAC is open to all those who are interested in making sustainable health choices which are socially protective and productive. It is dedicated to help people enhance their health and wellbeing and promotes the principles of health care by Adding Life to Life.

THAC is 30 years young

THAC is an idea and its subsequent 30-year outcome was born of Dr. Vijaya Venkat’s explorations in the fields of nutrition and dietetics, biochemistry, botany, childcare, eco-activism and developmental politics, and how these reflected on healthcare.

THAC has been a pioneer in the nutrition segment since the 1980s. It began as a lunch service, a dabba with wholesome food that was equal parts philosophy and equal parts relevance. It was the lone voice of a resilient and warrior lady who firmly believed in the transience of fast food and industrial food production systems.

Today, THAC is a veritable family member for tens of thousands across the country; a sub-culture of living in sync with the principles of nature’s design. One that has internalised a unique, vibrant, healthy identity. We are proud that the legacy of THAC’S founder, Dr. Vijay Venkat, is alive in these homes.

The Health Awareness Centre – THAC, is a space that educates and empowers individuals and groups, to learn about their relationships with food, the body, disease, and their sense of place in the environment around.

THAC is also present online. Here, the outcome has been a community-driven safety net for wellness. A network of “buddies” in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore – health enablers who connect one and another through regular meetings. This participative action from the community creates pathways to natural laws of daily living.
